To save water

Rain water is naturally soft and without chemicals so it is great for your lawn and garden, and it’s free! Utilize rain water for your yard by installing a rain barrel. You can manfacture your own rain barrel out of a clean 45 gallon drum, old wiskey cask or you can purchase a ready-made version at your local home and garden store. Water that comes off your eaves is funnelled into the barrel by the downspout and is accummulated to be used at a later time. For ease of use, it has a tap installed at the bottom that you can attach a hose to and use to directly water from. Make sure your barrel has a lid and a screen to not only keep out dirty, leaves and insects, but to prevent children from accidently falling in.
