lf your store has a buy-in-bulk section in barrels, you can virtually eliminate the packaging and not only get just the amount that you need, but it will also cost less. This is a good way to give a second life to previously-used containers as well, such as mayonnaise and pickle jars and other plastic, lidded containers.  Just empty your bulk purchase into them when you get home and label appropriately!

Avoid items that are over-packaged or which use non-recyclable packaging.

Buying larger sizes of non-perishable items also saves money and packaging.
